Wanderlust: Travel from Your Kitchen
An internationally inspired cookbook
TYPOGRAPHY, PRINT DESIGN
Objective
Design 4 beautifully typeset cookbook spreads and a cover, all consistent in theme.
Process
In searching for a topic to center my cookbook around, I wanted to combine something that was intresting to me, but also functional as something other than a cookbook. I decided to combine the assignment with the idea of a travel guide, so that as you mastered each recipe, you also learned the history of the food and surrounding area. In this way, you were able to “travel from your kitchen,” experiencing food from other countries as well as being immersed in their history and culture. (cont.)
The idea behind the visual language is the warmth and excitement that immersion in a new culture can bring you. In order convert this idea into usable design elements, I decided to use Adobe Firefly to generate professional grade images that had a consitent feel and style. The typography was meant to be clean and easily digestable in order to uncomplicate the cooking process, and to compliment the large photo on the following page.
I challenged myself a lot with this project, designing 6 recipes total and not limiting myself in terms of recipe choice, even including a recipe that required two spreads. The outcome was a beautiful, cohesieve, and well-rounded collection of recipe designs.
